Hoboken rent control measure heading to ballot; watch QLC debate here

HOBOKEN – Changes to the city’s 1973 rent control ordinance will be on the ballot on Nov. 8 for the public to decide. The City Council voted for the changes earlier this year, but tenant advocates wanted the public to decide. You can vote “Yes” to repeal the changes or “No” to keep them.
Last Friday, Oct. 28, the Quality of Life Coalition hosted a debate about the issues surrounding the referendum and the City Council’s changes.
The debate featured Mile Square Taxpayers Association spokesperson Ron Simoncini and Hoboken landlord Joe Murray on one side, and Cheryl Fallick and Dan Tumpson speaking on behalf of the tenants.
The debate was moderated by Ray Smith of The Hoboken Reporter .
For the past few weeks, residents and interested parties have been writing letters to the editor about the issue. Click HERE (http://hudsonreporter.com/pages/hoboken_letters) to peruse our letters from the past few weeks.
Also, last week’s edition of The Hoboken Reporter featured a cover story about the rent control referendum and vote. For that story, click HERE.
