This columnist reached-out for retired North Bergen employee Barbara Haberman and she tells us that she is doing much better since her retirement, with less stress, etc. Great to hear that you are doing better, and that you are still reading “On The Streets Where We Live!” Bee Goode, and feel better, Barbara!

Reverend Manuel D. Rios, administrator and pastor of Saint Rocco/Saint Brigid Roman Catholic Churches, located in Union City and North Bergen respectively, is celebrating his 25th Jubilee in the priesthood, announced Archbishop John J. Myers of the Archdiocese of Newark, New Jersey. Best wishes Father Rios!

Gilbert Flores of Weehawken, a professional tobacconist at Havana on the Hudson, has been inducted into The International Premium Cigar and Pipe Retailers Association. Now Mr. Flores, it is true that Santa Claus and Frosty The Snowman are your best customers around the holiday season, with their traditional wood and corn-carved pipes, respectively! Good luck, Mr. Flores!

Jennifer Tsonas, a gifted/enrichment teacher at the Anna L. Klein School in Guttenberg, and also a town resident, was recently named a “Gina Ginsberg Riggs Fellow” by The Gifted Child Society at the University of Connecticut. Surely Guttenberg Mayor Gerald Drasheff is well pleased. Bravo!

We hear that Taryn J. Stanton of West New York has completed baccalaureate studies in Zoology at the State University of New York /Oswego, in upstate New York. Congrats to you, and keep going along with your studies!

Commentary: Recently driving by the North Hudson Fire and Rescue service building along the Hudson River going north, I noticed that the building was not fully named, with its full address and name of the street, which also begs to be known as to what municipality it is addressed into!?!? To Weehawken Mayor Richard Turner, whom I believe is chairman of the board there, perhaps an advertisement in the newspaper, a letter to the editor, or an addressed street marker attached to the building or beside it somewhere would be most proper. Just a suggestion Mayor Turner, just a suggestion! And Away We Go!

And so it goes … until next time …see you around town …MATT.
