Sen. Robert Menendez and NHCAC unveil their dental suite in WNY
Senator Robert Menendez and the staff of the North Hudson Community Action Corporation (NHCAC) attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Oct. 21 to celebrate the opening of their brand new, state-of-the-art dental center in West New York.
The center used a $1.2 million federal grant to turn their former 195 sq. ft. office into a 2,400 square foot suite, which will much better accommodate and perhaps even double the center’s 7,000 annual dental patients, according to NHCAC President Chris Irizarry. The suite, which takes up an entire floor, will employ electronic record-keeping and digital radiography, provide education on the importance of dental health, and is child-friendly.
“Dental care is incredibly important, particularly to young people,” Sen. Menendez said, “in terms of the quality of their lives and their ability to perform to their God-given potential.”
The NHCAC treats needy residents throughout Hudson County, on a sliding scale.
In honor of Menendez’s long-term dedication to the NHCAC, a new inlaid-wood sign was unveiled in the downstairs pavilion that read “United States Senator Robert Menendez Pavilion.” This replaced the old blue plastic sign that read “Congressman,” which was Menendez’s previous position.

Direction of 47th Street in UC reversed in name of safety
Union City officials have reversed the direction of traffic on 47th Street between Kennedy Blvd. and Bergenline Ave.
The street used to run east to west, as do a majority of the uptown streets. Reversing the direction gives emergency vehicles easier access to the adjoining neighborhood and therefore increases public safety.
It also helps to alleviate the increased traffic resulting from the opening of Hudson County Community College and the Light Rail station.
Hudson Theatre Works will feature local playwrights
Hudson Theatre Works will be holding readings of new plays by some of New Jersey’s best playwrights on Mondays at 7:30 p.m. in November. The readings will be held at the Park Performing Arts Center on 560 32nd St. in Union City.
The suggested donation is $10. Please visit www.hudsontheatreworks.org for more information.
