Some pay taxes – some don’t

Dear Editor:
Taxpayers recently received their 4th quarter tax bill. The mayor and city council believe they are only responsible for the municipal portion. But the city’s agenda on tax abatements has an effect on the school taxes. Since 2005, the Board of Ed taxes has increased 33.99 percent.
Jersey City is constantly adding affordable housing yet these buildings pay no school taxes but they do bring in more families with school age children. My taxes have increased so others can live in a community without the burden of paying school taxes.
If businesses behaved by like Jersey City, such as a restaurant transferring the bill of one customer onto another customer’s bill, then that establishment would be closed down.
Basically, Jersey City is creating two classes of citizens: the privilege class who votes and is not burdened by increase taxes and the homeowner who receives an ever-increasing tax bill!
