Stevens to install new prez Friday afternoon

HOBOKEN – It will be a busy Friday at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, as Dr. Nariman Farvardin will be installed as the seventh president in the school’s history.
The day will include an academic roundtable with Steven Chu, the U.S. Secretary of Energy from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., according to a Stevens release.
The inauguration ceremony, held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., will be attended by Hoboken Mayor Dawn Zimmer and Kim Guadagno, the Lieutenant Governor of New Jersey. Guadagno last visited Hoboken for the swearing-in of council members in July.
Farvardin officially took office on July 1, but his official installation takes place on Friday. Prior to his time in Hoboken, Farvardin served as the senior vice president for academic affairs and provost of the University of Maryland, where he was a faculty member for 27 years.
