Partner of recently deceased North Bergen artist Robert Loughlin shares the couple’s ‘ups and downs’

NORTH BERGEN AND BEYOND — Artist Robert Loughlin, famous for his painting “The Brute” of a square-jawed man, was killed by a car while crossing the street to return home to the Manhattan Trailer Court in North Bergen two weeks ago. He had been feeding stray cats.
In this past weekend’s North Bergen Reporter newspaper, writer Stephen LaMarca spoke with Loughlin’s longtime partner, Gary Carlson, who talked about their up-and-down relationship. He said he had to protect Loughlin from being taken advantage of over the years.
