J CITY Theater presents the NJ premiere of RACE, by David Mamet

On October 7, 2011, J CITY Theater opened their 6th Season with RACE, by Pulitzer Prize winning playwright David Mamet at The Underground Theater at St. Michael’s in downtown Jersey City. Performances begin at 8 pm. Audiences are encouraged to reserve tickets due to limited seating and a limited run. The show is scheduled to close October 22nd. This is the NJ Premier of this script.
RACE, last year’s Broadway hit, is a legal drama / detective story that follows three lawyers who find themselves defending a rich, white businessman accused of a crime against a young African-American woman. Issues of class, shame, sex, gender, guilt and of course race are all provocatively stirred together in classic “Mamet” style
“When we learned that David Mamet had agreed to let our company be the NJ Premier of RACE, we were at first over the moon with excitement then scared to death” said J CITY Executive Producer Clay Cockrell.
J CITY Theater is excited to have many Jersey City residents in the cast. Ron Nummi of Liberty Harbor will be playing Charles Strickland, Dianna Lauren Jones of downtown Jersey City will be playing Susan and Sandy Cockrell will be playing Jack Lawson. Rounding out the cast of four is Brian Richardson from NewYork as Henry Brown. J CITY Theater continues their collaboration with Gallery 9 – transforming their lobby into an exhibition space for local artists. J CITY Theater is happy to continue their offerings of Dinner and A Show Packages with local restaurants. As in the past, the famed Embankment Restaurant is offering their $30.00 Prix Fixe menu on performance nights and the ever popular Hamilton Inn is offering 10% off the entire bill for J CITY audience members! J CITY Theater (www.jcity.org) is a not-for-profit professional theater company based in Jersey City, New Jersey.
