SECAUCUS AND BEYOND — Town officials said on Wednesday that Martin and Joseph Lewinski, Secaucus brothers, will be charged with animal cruelty for harboring over 37 cats in their home on Centre Avenue. They will also be charged with maintaining a nuisance, failing to register the animals, and possessing more pets than are allowed by town ordinance.
Their mother, 85-year-old Mary Lewinski, was charged on Oct. 3.
Animal Control removed 37 allegedly malnourished and dehydrated cats from the Lewinski home on Sept. 26. Eighteen of the animals were euthanized. The others are in the isolation unit in the Secaucus Animal Shelter and available for adoption. Mary Lewinski is scheduled to appear in Secaucus Municipal Court at 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 18. The brothers are scheduled to appear that day as well.
