North Bergen man arrested in Guttenberg on assault charges
A North Bergen man was arrested last Monday after allegedly assaulting a juvenile, Guttenberg Police say.
According to Police, the North Bergen man came out of a bar and allegedly punched a juvenile in the face and flipped him over the man’s head.
After initially receiving a report of a large fight, police were dispatched to the Rover Tavern at 71st and Park Avenue, where they encountered a juvenile who appeared to have been in a physical altercation. According to police, the 17-year-old male had lacerations and abrasions on his face, as well as a ripped shirt.
After receiving information from eye-witnesses, police encountered Dennis Grogan, 39, of 73rd street and Park Avenue, North Bergen, who allegedly attempted to flee on foot, according to a police report.
Police chased Grogan as he allegedly jumped over fences and into different backyards, according to a report.
Grogan was eventually restrained by police and was arrested on Sept. 5 at 12:35 a.m. Grogan was found to allegedly in possession of a pocket knife and allegedly “told EMS that he had used cocaine and consumed a large amount of alcohol,” the police report says.
Grogan was charged with simple assault of a juvenile and eluding police. He was sent to Middlesex County Sheriff’s office on open warrants, police say.
