HOBOKEN AND BEYOND — In addition to hosting several events to remember the 57 members of the Hoboken community who passed away in the 9/11/01 terrorist attacks, the city will play host to two unique events.
On Sept. 11 at 6 p.m., the city will hold a tribute to the 57 victims at Pier A Park. Directly after it, the National Football League will hold a tribute. The tribute is likely to be televised before the 8 p.m. football game between the New York Jets, who play in nearby East Rutherford, and the Dallas Cowboys.
Another event will be held Sept. 14. The community is invited to “(9/11: Hoboken Remembers,” a moderated discussion and oral history event. Its purpose is to “remember and record important, unique perspectives of how Hoboken responded as a community on Sept. 11, 2001.” The panelists will include former Mayor David Roberts as well as a local bartender, an incident commander at the hospital, and several others who represented different segments of town that day. The event is being supported by the Hoboken Historical Museum, the public library, and All Saints Church, which opened its doors for people to come in and pray that day, and which hosted support group meetings later.
The event is charied by Sandy O’Connor Carey, whose first husband Keith, a Hoboken resident, was killed in the attacks.
That event will take place at All Saints on Sept. 11 at 7 p.m.
