What will become of our 18 million dollar pump?

Dear Editor:
I guess, in the short term, Hoboken has to spend 18 million dollars on a pump (Reporter, Aug.21) to relieve the misery of those people in low-lying parts of town subject to flooding, but what about the long term? It’s a fact that sea level is rising due to warmer temperatures at the poles, and last week’s flood is a warning of worse and more frequent ones to come. What then will become of our 18 million dollar pump? You can’t push water uphill. Do any of our leaders have any long-term plans? In a decade or two the Hudson River may be flowing down our streets. Shouldn’t we be investing in gondolas?
