HOBOKEN – Mayor Dawn Zimmer urged residents to stay inside Sunday because of live wires down in the flooded areas of Hoboken, which could cause electrocution.
Confirmed downed, live wires were at 6th and Jefferson streets, 5th and Grand streets, 703 Park Avenue, and 800 Madison Street as of about 9 a.m.
“There’s no reason to go outside,” Zimmer said outside her office this morning.
She urged residents not to walk their dogs.
Zimmer also said at 9 a.m. that around 9,000 people were about to lose their electricity. She said PSE&G couldn’t provide the locations of where exactly power would be lost.
The emergency command center is still operational in City Hall, and can be reached at 201-239-6643/6644. An official at the command center said last night the calls were fewer than expected, but said since people are losing power the calls are beginning to increase.
