Govt: Aftershocks from East Coast earthquake may be felt in next hour or two

HUDSON COUNTY AND BEYOND — A rare East Coast earthquake has tongues wagging around Hudson County, with some readers saying their buildings shook during the 5.9-magnitude event.
CNN is quoting the U.S. Geological Survey as saying that people should expect aftershocks for the next hour or two. The earthquake was felt in the Hudson Reporter newspaper offices around 1:53 p.m.
“It’s one of the largest that we’ve had there,” USGS seismologist Lucy Jones is quoted as telling CNN. “People should be expecting [aftershocks], especially over the next hour or two.”
The quake was reportedly centered in Virginia and was felt as far north as Canada and as far west as Ohio and Michigan.
According to CNN, the quake measured 3.7 miles deep and was centered 83 miles southeast of the nation’s capital.
