Funeral mass was celebrated Aug. 13 for Nicholas K. LaBruno (Geeky) of Keansburg, formerly of Jersey City. He passed away Aug. 10 in Atlantic Highlands. Born in Jersey City to the late Michael and Angelina LaBruno, he lived in Jersey City before moving to Keansburg 11 years ago. He worked as an 8th grade Social Studies teacher at PS 23 School Jersey City for 23 years, retiring in 2010. In his earlier school years he also worked part time with the Jersey City Department of Recreation with after school sports activities. He was predeceased by his brothers, Michael (Maxie) and Victor. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Cathy Ann Labruno (Priore), and his three children, Nicholas, Adrianne, and Amanda LaBruno. Also surviving are his sisters Marie Skop, Angela Richards, Anna Marandola, Linda LaBruno, and brother Peter LaBruno; brother-in-law to Mickey Skop, Kevin Richards, John Marandola, Carmen and Kathy Priore, Cathy LaBruno, and Frances Fitzgerald. He was the uncle to 26 nieces and nephews and 20 great nieces and nephews, and a friend of John Karal. He is also survived by the love of his life, his great niece, Gabriella.
