STATEWIDE — According to the Associated Press, a plan was announced on Friday by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to increase PATH fares and raise bridge tolls.
The proposed hikes are in response to budget problems.
The PATH fare could rise from $1.75 to $2.25 as soon as next month.
EZPass fares for bridges and tunnels could rise from $8 to $12 during peak hours, and $6 to $10 during off-peak. They’d both go up another $2 in 2014.
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and New Jersey Gov. Christopher Christie released a joint statement in response, saying, “The Port Authority is facing financial issues but so are families in the states of New York and New Jersey.”
