Two arrested on drug charges
Police arrested two individuals at a motel on 9128 Tonnelle Ave. in North Bergen after receiving a tip on Wednesday, July 20.
After being alerted that an individual was allegedly approaching others with the intent to sell something illegal, an undercover officer set up surveillance and then arranged a deal to purchase pain killers, police say.
Demetrios Binikos, 19, of North Bergen was arrested and charged with obtaining prescription medication without a prescription, possession with an intent to distribute, and possession of CDS (controlled dangerous substances) near school property, according to Lt. Patrick Irwin.
After following Binikos to his hotel room, police also arrested Lindsey Paris, 28, of Cliffside Park. Paris was charged with possession of prescription drugs after police found two Xanax pills that were not prescribed to her, police say.
Police smell marijuana; two arrested
At approximately 6 p.m. on Wednesday July 20, North Bergen police arrested two individuals on drug charges, according to Lt. Patrick Irwin.
According to Irwin, police received a call that a burglary had taken place at a second floor apartment on 45th Street. After investigating the second floor, police went down to the first floor to see if anyone had seen or heard anything. An officer who was walking downstairs said he could smell marijuana. He thought it was coming from a first floor apartment. He knocked on the door.
Darrion Mansfield, 19, of Hoboken was allegedly visiting the renter of the apartment. Mansfield allegedly admitted to being in possession of marijuana, police said. Police allege that they also found him in possession of 46 ecstasy pills.
He was charged with possession of CDS, possession with intent to distribute, possession of CDS near school property, and possession of CDS within 500 feet of a public park. Bail was set at $20,000.
Police also arrested Briana Doherty, 20, North Bergen, who police say resides at the apartment. After she came home, she consented to a search of the apartment, police said. Police said they found more CDS.
Doherty was charged with possession of CDS, possession with intent to distribute, possession of CDS near school property, and possession within 500 feet of a public park, according to Lt. Irwin.
