Woman’s car stolen with dog inside

A Pennsylvania woman visiting Hoboken really had it “ruff” a week ago Tuesday.
According to a police report, she left her 2003 Volkswagen running on Newark Street around 5:45 p.m. Her dog was in the back seat.
But a thief or thieves were not swayed. They disappeared with the vehicle.
After a search of the area, police found the car double parked on the 100 block of Garden Street, about three blocks away.
The dog was still in the backseat, and only some loose change from the ashtray was reported missing.
The dog did not provide a description of the perpetrator(s).
The case of the wet wallet

A woman’s wallet found its way into the Hudson River on Tuesday, July 19, according to police, and a Bayonne man was arrested and charged with theft of movable property.
Leon Leslie, 24, of Bayonne, allegedly stole the wallet of a fellow employee at a downtown River Street office building then got nervous and threw it in the Hudson River, according to police.
The total value of the wallet and the property inside was $473, according to police.
Leslie walked onto the sixth floor of the building with a mail cart, and police say security cameras show him allegedly in possession of the wallet soon after.
Leslie allegedly told police that he was dropping off mail at the woman’s desk, and saw her wallet on the floor next to her desk, according to police. Leslie also allegedly told police, “I picked up the wallet and was afraid that someone would see a black man with a wallet. At that point, I took the wallet and ran across the street and threw it into the Hudson River,” according to police.
The victim originally said she didn’t want to press charges, and just wanted her wallet back, according to police, but after she heard the wallet was thrown in the river, she changed her mind.
Leslie was arrested and charged with theft of movable property.

Downtown jewelry store robbed

A jewelry store on the 300 block of Washington Street was burglarized in the early morning hours of July 16, according to police.
The door frame was severely damaged and shattered in multiple locations when police arrived. They say the cash register in the back was open and the money holders were in the “up position.”
Approximately $200 was reported missing, according to police. Police are investigating the incident.

Midtown chocolate store burglarized again

A midtown chocolate store was burglarized for the second time since April on July 17 some time between 4 a.m. and 7 a.m., according to police.
Police say the glass in the front door was smashed by an unknown object, possibly a rock, and $117 was stolen. Also taken from the store was a $500 Bose sound system, according to police.
Police are investigating the incident.

In through the window…out through the door

A 26-year-old Hoboken man had his uptown apartment burglarized on July 19 after someone apparently slid his window air conditioner over and climbed into the apartment.
The incident took place between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. on the 1000 block of Park Avenue, according to police.
The man returned to his home to find his front door open, but not damaged, and the air conditioner in the window slightly out of place. The door was locked when the man’s girlfriend left the home earlier that day, according to police.
Missing from the apartment was an IBM laptop valued at $1,000, as well as an unknown amount of jewelry. Police are investigating.

Now that’s a friendly OBGYN

A 46-year-old Hoboken man was arrested and charged with forgery after he allegedly tried to pass off a forged prescription blank to obtain oxycodone at a downtown Washington Street pharmacy on July 13.
An employee of the pharmacy called the doctor listed on the prescription blank. It turns out the doctor was an ob/gyn who said he wouldn’t ever prescribe oxycodone.
Police were called once the employee hung up with the doctor. A search by police officers of Harold Randolph, 46, of Hoboken, found another prescription blank in his possession, police said.
Randolph allegedly told police he was given the prescriptions by an unknown male in New York, according to police.

Man receives unexpected visitors

A Hoboken man who recently purchased an apartment downtown told police that people have been coming to his home, asking if they can have a tour of the property because they want to rent the apartment. The problem: the apartment isn’t for rent.
The visitors were following up from a Craigslist advertisement, which police say had the downtown apartment listed for rent at $1,100 per month.
The man turned two people away on two separate occasions, but after the third visit, when a female came with her parents to look at his home, he decided to alert police.
He asked the police to document the incident.

Police were dispatched to the location on the report of a damaged vehicle, and they met with the victim. She said someone took her leather purse containing $1,000, as well as an Adidas bag with work-related papers inside.
The woman said she was unsure if she left the vehicle unlocked or if someone broke into the car.
