DUKA, NELLIE ANASTASIA

Funeral services were held July 26 at Saints Peter and Paul Russian Orthodox Church, Jersey City, for Nellie Anastasia Duka of Jersey City. She died on Tuesday, July 19 at the Royal Health Gate nursing home in Trenton. She was born in Jersey City and was 93 years old. She worked for more than 35 years for R.C.A. in Harrison. She assembled tubes and later transistors that were critical to the defense effort in WWII and Korea. She was part of a team that provided essential transistors used in the very first U.S. Spacecraft. Her team was given a special award for their contribution to America’s space program. She was a lifelong parishioner of Saints Peter and Paul Russian Orthodox Church and was active in the senior organizations at St. Aedan’s and Boyd McGuiness. She was the daughter of the late Wasili Duka and Pauline Michelska Duka Bodyl; the sister of Michael Bodyl and the late Walter Bodyl, George Bodyl, and sister in law of the late Edna Bodyl, Mary Duka, Dorothy Duka, and the aunt of Joan Petrowski and Walter Duka; and great aunt of nine.
