HOBOKEN AND BEYOND – Players from one of the most popular soccer (or football) teams in the world are staying right here in Hudson County.
The Manchester United team bus was spotted on Tuesday morning outside of the W Hotel in Hoboken, and reports say some former players will be at Mulligan’s bar on Tuesday afternoon at noon.
Many visiting teams in Major League Soccer that play against the New York Red Bulls (based in Harrison, N.J.) stay at the W Hotel.
Manchester United will compete against the Major League Soccer All-Stars on Wednesday, July 27 at 8:30 p.m. at Red Bull Arena in nearby Harrison. The game will be televised on ESPN2.
The headliner for Manchester United is Wayne Rooney, whose younger brother John plays for the Red Bulls.
Manchester United was recently named the world’s most valuable franchise, valued at $1.86 billion, according to a Forbes report. The New York Yankees were listed as the third most valuable franchise, valued at $1.7 billion. In second was the Dallas Cowboys. — Ray Smith
