Various appointments at WNY commissioners meeting

At the West New York commissioners’ meeting on Wednesday, July 20 at 7 p.m., new appointments were made to various departments.
Michael Indri was appointed director of the West New York Police Department.
Aida Roque, a sister of the new mayor, was appointed to fill the unexpired term of Alex Navas on the West New York Housing Authority for two years.
Appointments to the West New York Zoning Board included Joseph Rodriguez for a three-year term and Armando Alvarez for a one-year term.
Clara Brito-Herrera was appointed the mayor’s liaison to the West New York Board of Education.
Michael Hyun was appointed as an alternate for one year to the West New York Planning Board. Milena Castanieda was appointed secretary for the West New York Alcoholic Beverage Control Board and to a one-year term on the West New York rent control board. Jose Silvestri was appointed to fill the unexpired term of Nelly Huaman on the rent control board for seven months.
The town also introduced an ordinance to amend the town’s curfew, to create the position of chief judge of the municipal court for the town of West New York, and to establish a municipal court director. Watch future editions of the newspaper for more on some of these stories.

Union City presents ‘Dances in the park’

Union City Mayor Brian Stack and the Board of Commissioners invite the community to an evening of dance from folklore, ballet and tango. The show will feature renowned tango dancers Pedro & Laura Escudero and the Tap Ole Dance Company. The event will be held at Juan Pablo Duarte Park, New York Avenue & 33rd Street Tuesday, July 26 at 8 p.m. Admission is free. For further information contact Union City town hall at 201-348-5735.

Crafters, artists and vendors wanted for festival

The annual Union City Arts & Crafts and Music Festival to be held at Ellsworth Park, on New York Avenue and 24th street, is in need of local artists, crafters, vendors, and organizations to participate.
The spaces are 10 x 10 and participation is free.
The event will be held Sept. 17 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The daylong event will have activities for the children. For further information contact the Union City Department of Public Affairs at 201 -348 -5746.
