County opens cooling centers for relief from the heat

HUDSON COUNTY – County Administrator Abe Antun says the homeless and county residents can use these cooling centers throughout the county during what is expected to be one of the worst heat waves of this summer.
“I’ve put together the following list for the New Jersey State Police OEM and these centers are not necessarily for the homeless, but they are open to all citizens around the municipalities within the county,” he said.
Relief from the 100 degree temperatures can be found at the following sites:
Bayonne – The following centers will be open on Thursday July 21 and Friday July 22:
Senior Citizen Center 16 West 4th St. 8:30 a.m. – 8 p.m.
Senior Citizen Center 597 Broadway (between 27th and 28th St.) 8:30 a.m. – 8 p.m.
Senior Citizen Center 329 Avenue B (56th St.) 8:30 a.m. – 8 p.m.
East Newark – no centers have been opened.
Guttenberg- Town Hall will be open on Thursday July 21 and Friday July 22 at 6808 Park Ave. from 12 p.m. – 8 p.m.
Harrison- The Senior Citizen Center at 221 Harrison Ave. will be open on Thursday July 21 and Friday July 22 from 9 a.m. – 8 p.m.
Hoboken – Town Hall will be open on Thursday July 21 and Friday July 22 from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Jersey City:
Five Corners Library, 678 Newark Ave. Hours: Monday, Noon – 8 p.m; Tuesday through Thursday, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m; Friday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
