Bayonne to poll residents on youth curfew

BAYONNE — Mayor Mark A. Smith announced that the city of Bayonne is interested in learning the public’s views on the concept of a youth curfew.
Smith said, “In light of recent incidents, my administration is exploring various options for maintaining order overnight on city streets. One of the ideas that some people have suggested is a youth curfew. We have not made a final decision about this idea or any other proposal. We would like to have the public’s views about a youth curfew, so we have set up an on-line poll about this issue on the city of Bayonne’s website.”
Smith continued, “Anyone interested in participating in the on-line poll should go to the homepage of the website, www.bayonnenj.org.”
This comes on the heels of a recent fight on city streets by two groups of teens that left one man in a coma.
Anyone who would like to offer additional ideas or comments about maintaining order overnight on city streets may send an e-mail to Mayor Smith at mayors.office@baynj.org.
The poll will remain posted on the website through Friday, Aug. 5.
