Advice to dog owners

To the Editor:
This letter is in response to my article, “Watch Out? Rat poison may be killing local dogs.
Pet owners are not in need of bureaucratic harrumphing from local government officials if they suspect their pets have been poisoned. They do need vital first-aid information, however, as quickly as possible. If you suspect your pet has ingested or has had any contact with any sort of poison, particularly a rodenticide, you can check for first-aid instruction on www.petmd.com under the “emergency” tab or under www.peteducation.com under the “dog articles” tab. Most importantly, though, get your pet to its regular veterinarian or to a veterinary emergency room as soon as possible and tell them what you suspect is the cause of your pet’s distress.
