Born in Newton, Mass. and raised in Secaucus, Daniel L. Henkel now lives between his hometown of Secaucus and Manhattan because of his growing new business. Academically, after graduating from Secaucus High School in 1989, he went on to achieve a bachelor’s degree in the School of Architecture at Syracuse University in upstate New York in 1994. During that time he also studied abroad in Florence, Italy with the university’s Study Abroad Program.
After college, he went to work for known architectural companies like Mascioni & Behrmann and Fabiano Designs for one and a half years and seven years, respectively, in New York and Montclair, respectively. He then began his own business, Design 42 Architecture, LLC., as a sole proprietor, and is doing well in New York City, since expanding and moving there across the Hudson River three years ago.
Mr. Henkel’s parents are William and Lorna Henkel of Secaucus, and he has a brother Timothy and a sister Sarah who both live out-of-state. His deceased uncle Bob was a local journalist in Secaucus. He is married to his lovely wife Tiffany, and they have a son named Hudson, and another beautiful baby that was due July 8.
Congratulations!
Some of his architectural achievements involved three homes that he designed as well as a health club in Secaucus. He has also been involved with other projects in West New York, and in other municipalities in North Hudson County. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Palisades Emergency Residential Corporation (PERC), whose Executive Director is Emory Edwards, who lives in Union City and Jersey City. Mr. Henkel tells us he is currently the President of the Board of Directors of PERC.
When asked why he chose architecture as a profession, he said that he always had an interest in math and art, and the two were used in architecture, but his vocation, as he found out, was very challenging, and the college joke was that when asked what professional school he was attending, he always said “Architorture School!”
In his past-time hours, he likes to ride his bicycle, go kayaking, and hiking. He also likes contemporary rock & roll, folk rock & roll, jazz, and Latin music. As for sports, he likes college basketball, and track & field in the Olympics.
Mr. Henkel is a member of the Reformed Church in America, whose forerunner was the Old Dutch Reformed Church. Mr. Henkel tells us proudly that his father is the retired Pastor of the First Reformed Church in Secaucus. Mr. Henkel further tells us that his wife Tiffany is the Pastor of the Metro Baptist Church in Manhattan, which he described as an “Independent Baptist Church,” meaning independent of the Southern Baptist Convention, in the United States.
It seems that Mr. Henkel has quite a varied domestic and professional life and enjoys it all. Daniel Henkel – All the best!
West New York Mayor Dr. Felix Roque tells us that he also performs medical procedures as a member of the armed forces of the USA. We had a great talk. More great information on the mayor/doctor in an upcoming column. In the mean time, Dr. Roque: Do you have a cure for sciatica? Inquiring minds and painful backs want to know! And away we go!
Guttenberg’s athletic living legend Brian Guaschino tells us that as of June 19 it’s been 40 years since he became the first national high school track champion in Hudson County as a student at North Bergen High School. Now that also makes North Hudson County and Guttenberg shine in the annals of sports. Thus, a special Town Council citation is due, delivered by Guaschino’s friend and Mayor

Commentary: The county-wide polity has been shook up, as well as North Hudson County, since the dust has cleared from the county primary elections as well as some North Hudson municipal elections that hold sway elsewhere locally.
