FBI informant Dwek loses $12,500 monthly federal stipend

STATEWIDE — FBI Informant Solomon Dwek, who brought down many Hudson County officials as part of a 2009 federal sting operation into political corruption, has been living in Pikesville, Md., according to news reports. His location was revealed after his bail was revoked June 28 and he was taken into federal custody from allegedly failing to return a rental car and allegedly lying to the FBI about the incident.
Dwek apparently also lost a $12,500 monthly federal stipend along with a $100-an-hour private security team.
He agreed to cooperate with the government after his arrest in 2006 for a $50 million bank fraud charge, for which he has still not been sentenced. The FBI recruited him as an informant in the 2009 statewide sting operation that led to the arrest of 46 individuals.
He has been living with his wife and six children in Maryland while testifying against former politicians and officials throughout the federal cases. But he was unable to testify in the most recent trial against former Mayor of Secaucus Dennis Elwell, who was found guilty of bribery and acquitted of extortion.
On Thursday, July 14, the car theft charges were dropped in Baltimore District Court, according to The Baltimore Sun.
