Hoboken man held in alleged Picasso theft in San Francisco

HOBOKEN AND BEYOND – A Hoboken man has been arrested in connection with the alleged theft of an original Pablo Picasso drawing from a gallery in Union Square in San Francisco, Calif., according to a report in The San Francisco Chronicle.
The artwork has been recovered.
The report cites San Francisco Police Chief Greg Suhr as saying that Mark Lugo, 30, of Hoboken, was arrested at a hotel in Napa at approximately 9:30 p.m. on July 6. According to the report, Lugo was booked on suspicion of burglary, theft, possession of stolen property, and drug possession. His bail was set at $5 million.
The theft of Picasso’s 1965 pencil drawing “Tête de Femme (Head of a Woman)” was reported at 11:41 a.m. on July 5 by the Weinstein Gallery at 383 Geary St. in San Francisco, according to the report.
The report also states that a man, who police allege is Lugo, was seen on a surveillance tape walking near the scene of the alleged crime with the framed artwork covered by a newspaper.
