Rowdy party leads to arrest
James Minarick, 38, of Bayonne was charged with making terroristic threats against a police officer, aggravated assault against a police officer, and resisting arrest on June 25 after officers responded to his Pavonia Avenue house on the report of a loud party.
A police spokesperson said Minarick, who appeared to be intoxicated at the time, allegedly shouted obscenities at the officers and threatened to sic his dog on them.
While others at the party tried to calm him, Minarick was arrested when he allegedly told the officers that he would shoot them and allegedly charged after the officers, allegedly making threatening gestures. The police said Minarick pushed one of the officers. They said one officer was bitten by Minarick’s dog, requiring four stitches to his thigh.
Night swim leads to arrest for theft
On June 24, two 16-year- old Bayonne boys were charged with theft and defiant trespassing after they allegedly took an early morning swim at the DiDomenico Municipal Pool and allegedly walked away with swimming fins, a kickboard, and a stop watch.
Defiant trespass is applied when someone deliberately defies a trespass warning such as a posted sign. The pool area is clearly posted, the police said.
A police spokesperson said a witness called the Police Department to say that two boys had climbed the fence to the pool area. The police caught up with boys matching the description and a subsequent search found the allegedly stolen items in one of boys’ backpacks.
Violent shoplifting?
A spokesperson for the Police Department said a shoplifting charge against Ashan S. Canty, 32, of Jersey City was upgraded to robbery as a result of an alleged scuffle with workers at the Family Dollar store on Broadway on June 24.
A police spokesperson said officers responded to the store on the report of shoplifting and found store employees wrestling with Canty in an effort to keep him from allegedly seeking to flee the store.
Store employees told the police that they saw Canty allegedly place several items into a backpack before attempting to leave the store without paying.
Canty then allegedly gave the police a false name and was later properly identified as the result of a fingerprint check.
Canty was charged with robbery, hindering arrest and obstruction of a governmental function. He was also found to have an outstanding warrant for $500 in unpaid fines to Jersey City Municipal Court. He was sent to the Hudson County Correctional Facility in Kearny.
Lewdness charged
Juan Rodriguez, 47, of Bayonne was charged with lewdness on June 26 after police found him allegedly masturbating outside the Broadway Walgreens.
A police spokesperson said officers responded to the store on the report of a possible narcotics transaction taking place in the parking lot. They found Rodriquez sitting on a milk crate in view of the front door.
The police said they also found Rodriquez in possession of marijuana under 50 grams and packaging for a cigar. He was charged with lewdness, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia, and sent to the Hudson County Correctional Facility in Kearny.
Five cars keyed along JFK Boulevard
Someone apparently walking down Kennedy Boulevard scratched the passenger side of five vehicles during the overnight from June 24 into June 25, police said.
One of the victims called the police to report the scratches on one car. When the police arrived they noticed that five cars in total had been victimized. This included a Honda Civic, a Honda Acura, a Hyundai Santa Fe, a Hyundai Sonata, and a Ford Mustang.
