WEEHAWKEN — Weehawken Police are issuing a “reverse 911” to residents of the township and surrounding communities. According to Weehawken Public Safety Director, Jeff Welz, two elderly Weehawken residents were robbed on Monday in a scam which has also taken place five times in nearby towns over the last week.
According to Welz, in the two Weehawken incidents, an unknown male came to the residents’ home claiming he was working on the house next door because it had water damage. He said he needed to check and see if the water was coming from their home. When the man left, the residents noticed items were missing.
Welz advises residents to not let anyone claiming to be a worker of any kind into your home if you are not expecting them. Additionally, if you are uncertain of the identity of anyone attempting to enter your home, call the police.
