HOBOKEN AND BEYOND – Hundreds of residents gathered near Sinatra Park (on Sinatra Drive) for the 5th Annual ‘Sinatra Idol’, a singing contest that also honors Hoboken’s favorite son, Frank Sinatra.
Fourteen contestants travelled from all across North America for the contest, which Geri Fallo, the director of cultural affairs, says people just seem to “come out of the woodwork” for on an annual basis.
The winner this year was Greg Myers, a management consultant from Plainfield. Myers had previously entered the contest twice, but this year, he was able to leave Hoboken as the winner.
In addition to winning a host of prizes from local shops, he will also perform at the Frank Sinatra Birthday Bash at the Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank on Dec. 9.
“I’ve learned lessons from other contests over the years,” Myers said after the show. “I worked on my voice a little. My voice cracked last year during the contest, but this year I just relaxed and had fun.”
