SECAUCUS AND BEYOND — On Thursday Secaucus-based Assemblyman Vincent Prieto was among those threatening to vote against a bill designed by Senate President Stephen Sweeney, also a Democrat, that would raise pension and benefits costs for teachers, cops, firefighters and others, according to news reports.
Assemblyman Prieto stood amongst other Assembly members in a protest held outside the State House. A crowd of 3,500 hundred workers and leaders from the largest state unions fired up the crowd in support of collective bargaining.
According to NJ.com, State Sen. Ray Lesniak (D), said the changes being proposed should be negotiated, not legislated. He proposed introducing legislation on Monday that will revive the millionaire’s tax.
