‘Shop Hoboken’ announced for June 11 and June 12

HOBOKEN – Mayor Dawn Zimmer joined business owners from throughout the city on Monday morning announcing the “Shop Hoboken” initiative, encouraging residents and visitors to shop locally in Hoboken.
Thirty six stores are taking part in the initiative, which will include discounts to stores and a free bus service running on June 11 and June 12 to take shoppers from 14th Street to Newark Street.
Zimmer said she also hopes to help launch a bike-share program in Hoboken in the future, and called the Shop Hoboken event “the beginning of a stronger partnership” with the local shops.
“This ties into everything we’ve been doing in Hoboken,” she said.
More details about the initiative are expected to be announced as the event draws nearer.
Rory Chadwick, the owner of Midtown Authentic, said he was excited to take part.
“I’m not a huge corporation like a Home Depot,” Chadwick said. “I’m one person with a dream of having a successful business in Hoboken…I want to do everything in my power to help not only myself but my fellow business owners.”
The kickoff event was held at Anastasia’s in downtown Hoboken.
Anastasia Kamper, the owner, helped organize the initiative, and was called one of the “driving forces” of Shop Hoboken.
Kamper said she is happy to partner with the city to get the message of the initiative out to the residents. – Ray Smith
