UNION CITY AND BEYOND — If you were surprised to see a bonfire late Saturday night in the community of Union City, you weren’t alone. But there’s a good explanation.
Jewish community members gathered at 11 p.m. on May 21 across the street of the Mesivta Sanz school in Union City on 34th street to observe Lag BaOmer.
Lag BaOmer is a festive day on the Jewish calendar. There are a few reasons given for the celebration, related to the calendar and other holidays and the death of a rabbi. In any case, is It is a day celebrated with outings, bonfires, and other events.
The local fire department was present for safety precautions during the bonfire and celebration.
