Union City students won 22 awards at the recent Hudson County Science Fair, including four gold medals and four silver medals in the annual countywide competition.
“We are all very proud of these students, and it is also a reflection of the hard work and dedication of both the students and their coaches, including Luisa Marcos, Dr. Mina Armani, Dr. Judy Barrios and Nadia Makar,” said Superintendent of Schools Stanley Sanger.
The four gold medal winners are: Soany Heredia in medicine and health; Carolina Pelaez in animal science; Emma Russo in biochemistry; and Paola Severino in cellular and molecular biology.
The four silver medal winners are: Jeffrey Matos in engineering; Emad Miqbel in medicine and health; Luzmary Sabino in physics and astronomy; and Skarleth Moran in plant science.
Bronze medal winners included: Shruti Patel in biochemistry; Cristian Ugaz in cellular and molecular biology; Peter Yeung in engineering; Kevin Erazo in energy and transportation; Frances Martinez in earth science; Julissa Marrero in medicine and health; and Denisse Melgar and Carmen Velez in physics and astronomy.
The following students won special swards: Erika Portero, Jeffrey Matos, Soany Heredia, Emad Miqbel, Anthony Mendoza and Luzmary Subino.
