‘Independents for Education’ slate defeats ‘Kids First’ in Hoboken race

HOBOKEN —
In Wednesday’s school board race, a slate called Independents for education defeated the long-running Kids First slate for all three open seats on the nine-member board.
The results may spell trouble for Mayor Dawn Zimmer, as her allies supported Kids First. Often in Hoboken, a school board race is seen as a predictor of the May council election that follows.
In addition, the school budget passed by a 1,321-641 vote.
The results, without provisional ballots (last-minute and contested ballots), are:

Carmelo Garcia – 2,287
Clifford Godfrey – 1,319
Jean Marie Mitchell – 1,350
Steve Feinstein – 1,231
Frances Rhodes Kearns – 1,973
Patricia Waiters (not on a slate) – 277
Peter Biancamano – 1,990
