Marines thank the City of Bayonne

To the Editor:
I served as chairman of the Memorial Committee that constructed, in 2008, the United States Marine Corps Monument, located at the Peninsula at Bayonne Harbor. I would like to thank the City of Bayonne, especially the BLRA, for maintaining the Marine Monument in an excellent condition. Everyone, including Henry Sanchez, and Jasmine and Brian Ahearn of the BLRA, does a great job in keeping the grass cut and the area clean for visitors. They are completely dedicated to their work. The flag is raised and taken down every day, except on weekends and if a holiday falls on a Monday.
None of this could be possible if we Marines did not have 100 percent cooperation from Mayor Mark Smith. The Marine Corps Monument is located near the area where Baker Company, 21st Infantry Battalion trained from January 1947 until activated for the Korean War on Sept. 7, 1950. The monument is dedicated in memory of the eight Marines who made the supreme sacrifice in Korea.
