A funeral mass was offered April 9 at Christ the King Catholic Church, Jersey City, for Lorraine Isabel Payton. Born in Jersey City, she passed away April 4. Lorraine, educated in the Jersey City School system, was the mother of four children. She was a Nurse’s Aide at Pollack Hospital, an LPN at JC Medical Center and a clerk at the JC Housing Authority. Lorraine lived in Montgomery Gardens for fifty years where her community work included District Leader, and working with the Boy Scouts and After School Program. An active member of Christ the King Catholic Church for over 60 years, she served with the Rosary Society and as Eucharist Minister. She was predeceased by her father James, mother Gertrude, and her six siblings: Florence, James, Travis, Harry, Raymond and Gordon. Lorraine is also predeceased by her children, Michael and Charlotte. Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Gregory and Dennis; their wives; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
