Police officer went out of his way

Dear Editor:

My name is GiGi Olivieri and I come to Hoboken quite often to visit my daughter. I must share one of the most precious and unbelievable experiences I had in my life.
I was lying in bed this morning thanking God for allowing me to see another day and praying about what this “new” day might hold for me. Someone rang the doorbell. I hit the button and a kind and gentle voice on the other end asked, “Do you own a silver Honda” after identifying himself as a policeman. I told him my daughter was out of town but to please give me a moment and let me take a look at her car keys. Sure enough, my daughter’s car keys said Honda and the car was silver.
Thinking the worst (someone broke into her car or a car hit her car) I hurried downstairs where I met the biggest and sweetest smile from Police Officer 115 Jason Falco. Such a warm and gentle young man who stood about 6 feet. He was an unspoken hero for my daughter and me. This young man, after I questioned him, “How did you know it was my daughter’s car?” explained that he did it by her tags on her car. I couldn’t believe that this man went out of his way to help avoid the car being towed, or booted, or whatever the consequences would have been because her car was parked where there was a notice not to park it 3/29 due to some kind of construction going on. She parked it there before she left town to go out of the country for a few days.
Afterwards I remembered, “Oh no – It was I who moved it to that spot. I failed to see the notice!” But Officer Falco saved the day…the dollars and the dread of having to break the news to my daughter that her car was more than likely towed away.
My daughter is a policewoman in another town and she would have probably done the same.
How beautiful to see someone in these times actually go the “extra miles” for another person, a stranger. He looked up the tag number and walked to the apartment and rang not one time, but a second time. God is good and he showed himself through the kindness of Officer Falco.
Officer Falco is an absolute perfect example of God’s Golden Rule, “Do unto others as you would want them to do unto you.” Let’s follow and walk in these footsteps. Thank you Officer Falco and may God bless you.
