A mass of Christian burial was offered March 22 at St. Joseph RC Church, Keyport, for John A. Shortal, 73, of Keyport. He passed March 18 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Hoboken, he spent all of his life there before moving to Keyport 19 years ago. John served his country in the Army. He was a professional firefighter for the Hoboken Fire Department for 27 years prior to his retirement in 1986. He is survived by his wife Patricia, of Keyport; his sons, Jack Shortal of Keyport, and Patrick Shortal and his wife Nathalie of Coral Gables Fla.; his grandchildren, Nicholas Patrick, and Lauren Elise, a sister, Carol Cashin and his nieces, Beth Russo and Leigh Carr. John was predeceased by his parents, John and Abigail Shortal, a sister, Helen Carr, and his nephew, Thomas Carr Jr. Services arranged by the Day Funeral Home, Keyport.
