HUDSON COUNTY — As redistricting continues, State Sen. Brian P. Stack (D-Union City) has been circulating an introduction letter in the past two days to his potential new 33rd District constituents in Jersey City. In the letter, he said that due to state legislative redistricting (spurred by the census), he would likely represent a greater portion of Jersey City.
Currently, he represents Guttenberg, Hoboken, Union City, Weehawken, West New York and a small section of Jersey City.
“I wanted to take this approach because I am not your typical politician who will send you a piece of campaign literature every few years, hoping to get your vote, and then not contact you again until the next election,” he said. “I am not part of the Democratic machine…I am not a favorite of the county politicians, but if you speak with residents in my current Senate District or in Union City, you will hear that I work 17 hours a day – seven days a week. I eat, sleep and think government on a 24/7 basis.”
He also explained his policy of giving out his phone number (201-376-1942) and being accessible to his constituents, and said that this would continue with new constituents that fall under his jurisdiction.
He wrote, “I look forward to opening an office in your neighborhood that will be open five days a week and will host evening hours. If you are unable to visit me at the office, I will come to your home to discuss your matter.”
He added, “I typically answer 150 cell phone calls per day and see approximately 300 residents per week, one on one. My late father grew up in Jersey City and worked for Port Authority in Journal Square … Currently, I am 44 years old. Prior to my three and a half years in the State Senate, I served four years in the New Jersey General Assembly. I always voice my conscience – I don’t believe in playing the game of insider politics.”
