HUDSON COUNTY – The Sam’s Club in Secaucus has given an $11,000 grant to the Hudson County Sheriff’s Office to provide one year’s worth of dog food for the department’s K-9 Unit.
The unit, which consists of four specially-trained German shepherds and their handlers, assists the Sheriff’s Department in protecting Hudson County residents on a day to day basis. Each day the unit is deployed throughout the county and, when needed, assists neighboring jurisdictions to track suspects and screen for illicit or explosive materials.
“This is a great example of a public/private partnership to help make our community a safer place and ease the burden on our taxpayers,” said Hudson County Sheriff Frank Schillari, who is also a Secaucus resident. “I made a pledge during my campaign to work with private industry to alleviate costs on residents and I am proud to call Sam’s Club a partner in this endeavor.”
