HMIELEWSKI, HENRY S

Funeral mass was celebrated March 11 at St. Joseph’s Church, Toms River, for Henry S. Hmielewski, 85 of Toms River. He passed away March 7 at the Leisure Chateau Nursing Home in Lakewood. Henry was a police officer with the Jersey City Police Department, faithfully serving the community for 26 years. He spent most of his career in the North Precinct before retiring in 1978. He also worked as a therapist aide at the A. Harry Moore School in Jersey City for 15 years. Henry served with pride in the U.S. Navy. He was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church of Toms River where he served as an usher, helped with the CCD classes and was a member of the Holy Name Society.
He was a member of the Jersey City F.O.P. Lodge 4. He was born in Jersey City and lived there until moving to Toms River 34 years ago. He was predeceased by his brother John and sister Sophie Hmielewski. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Eileen Stepuch Hmielewski; son Allen and his wife Donna of Toms River; daughter, Karen Badach and her husband Marvin of Toms River; sister Jean Savulich of Toms River; six grandchildren, Allison Iannaccone and husband Daniel, Amanda Badach, Jason Hmielewski and wife Monica, Meghan Badach, Whitney Badach and Tyler Hmielewski; great granddaughter, Brielle Iannaccone. Services arranged by the Kedz Funeral Home, Toms River.
