Crossing guards came through

Dear Editor:
As March Madness is here and elections are around the corner, I wanted to send a message about my deepest gratitude to our crossing guards whose performance this winter has been outstanding! A special thank you and applause goes out to these hard working public servants who weather the winter storms. They protect our children and have provided our students, schools and pedestrians the best service during these freezing months and through heavy snow. Their dedication is priceless to our family’s quality of life and next time you see one let them know how much you appreciate them.
I also wanted to recognize and thank the city’s cultural affairs committee whom extended their invitation to me to serve as the guest inspirational speaker at last month’s Richard Hick’s Black Youth Empowerment Luncheon. A great honor was bestowed and an amazing job was done by Director Luis Acevedo, Shirley Cummins, Director Leo Pelligrini, Supervisor Geri Fallo and company.
Thirdly, thank you to the Hispanic Culture Club of Hoboken High School, its President Natasha Rivera and Advisor Christopher Munoz for inviting me to be the first speaker of their Hispanic Lecture Series which was purposeful and meaningful to share my story with them all as they listened attentively and responded proudly.
Lastly, it is my honor and joy to serve this city as a volunteer school board member always investing in public education and as a young professional in my career of public housing. It is always a noble role being a public servant who offers his best representation to improve those areas of public policy for its entire community. So, to my thousands of supporters who’ve been encouraging me on my re-election in the school board race I say thank you as your prevailing words have started the movement and its creating an amazing driving force, so I look forward to having you join “The Whole Child Movement” and don’t forget to cast your bids for the kids on April 27. Sincerely,
Carmelo G. Garcia, MSIS, IM, PHM
School board member
