KOREK, FRANK J

A funeral service took place March 7 for Frank J. Forek, 86, formerly of Jersey City. He passed away March 3 at Hackensack Hospital. He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran who served his country aboard the USS Franklin. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart and several other distinguished medals for being wounded while saving the lives of several of his shipmates. In 1947 he started his business, Manhattan Florist, in Jersey City, which he owned and operated for the last 64 years, through which he has made many close and loyal friends who will truly miss him. In 1946 he married the love of his life, Alice Piental who predeceased him in 2004. He is survived by his children: sons, Robert, Peter, Steven and his wife Patricia; daughter, Frances Napolitano and her late husband Charles; and the Dziadzi to his grandchildren, Katherine and her fiancé Anthony Gravina, Alicia and her fiancé Kevin Varhola, Jessica, Victoria, Shannon, Kayla, and Tyler Napolitano, Ryan Korek and his wife Danielle; and his ‘Little Princess’ great-granddaughter, Lillie Rose Varhola, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his brothers, Edward (Corky), and Stanley and sisters, Sofie Kierny and Josephine Bilicki. Services arranged by the Bromirski Funeral Home, Jersey City.
