New firefighters for Jersey City

JERSEY CITY — Federal officials announced this week that the Jersey City Fire Department will receive an $8.2 million two-year grant. The funds will be used to hire 64 firefighters, according to the mayor’s office. The city has lost more than 100 fire fighters in the past two years, largely due to retirement. The funds come from the federal Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response program.
