Alleged fake parking permit leads to arrest

A 23-year-old Hoboken man was arrested and charged with forgery for allegedly using a fake parking permit in the city on Tuesday.
Police say that on Feb. 15 at approximately 12:05 p.m., a Hoboken Parking Enforcement officer noticed “a fake looking parking permit” in a vehicle parked on the 200 block of Madison Street. Police say the parking enforcement officer then called in the registration to the Hoboken Parking Utility, and found the last time a valid permit was registered for the vehicle was July 2010. The vehicle was subsequently towed.
When Brandon Lane, the suspect, came in to police for a tow release, police say they questioned him on the authenticity of the permit, then arrested and charged him with forgery.

Woman knocked down, robbed on Garden Street

A woman was “clotheslined” – knocked to the ground and robbed – on Wednesday, Feb. 9 at 10:50 p.m. near the corner of Second and Garden streets by an unknown man, according to police.
The woman said she was walking north on Garden Street when a male attacked her and she struck her forehead on the pavement, according to police. Fearing for her life, the woman defended herself by grabbing the man, but the suspect fled. A witness walking west on Third Street heard the victim screaming and provided police with a statement, police said. The victim refused medical assistance.
Items stolen include a checkbook, credit card, license, $60 in cash, a paycheck, DVDs, and a passport.

Patient: That powder is talcum powder

Tomasa Terri Perez, 52, of Hoboken, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance (cocaine) and possession of drug paraphernalia on Feb. 10 at approximately 6:40 p.m., according to police.
Police were dispatched to Hoboken University Medical Center on the report of a patient allegedly with drugs on their person. Police say employees allegedly found, in the clothing of the patient, yellow pills, powder, and a white and yellow metal tube made to look like a cigarette (called a one-shooter) which, according to police, is often used to smoke marijuana.
Perez allegedly told police that it was not hers, and that her aunt likes to put talcum powder around the house. But police had a different story, saying they confirmed that the white powder found on Perez was cocaine.

Man arrested twice in one day

Christopher Rosado, 24, of Jersey City, had a busy day on Feb. 15, according to two police reports.
Police say they stopped Rosado at approximately 10:20 a.m. outside of City Hall, 94 Washington St., and found out the suspect had warrants in Jersey City for failure to appear. During the search of the subject, police say they found a glass crack pipe that was allegedly in Rosado’s winter jacket, and took the man into custody. He was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia in addition to the charge stemming from an outstanding warrant in Jersey City.
Later that day, police say they saw Rosado again, this time at a Hoboken Housing Authority complex near Sixth Street, at approximately 9:50 p.m. Police say they observed him near the Housing Authority, and asked what he was doing there.
Visitors are required to sign in at a visitor’s desk when going to the Housing Authority.
Police say Rosado told police he was visiting his grandmother who was in the hospital. Police said the answer “made no sense” and arrested him for trespassing.
Police say Rosado once again had a glass crack pipe in his possession, and charged him with possession of drug paraphernalia and trespassing.

Arrested after traffic stop

A 34-year-old Bayonne man was charged with possession of drugs within 500 feet of a park, and possession of cocaine, crack cocaine, and Phencyclidine (PCP) on Tuesday, Feb. 8 at approximately 10:15 p.m. near the corner of Fourth and Garden streets, according to police.
Police say they conducted a traffic stop and the driver, Thomas Lopez, was acting nervous. The police say they noticed drug paraphernalia that was allegedly inside the car, including a light green cigar tube. After police saw the paraphernalia, they removed the top of the cigar tube and found 21 clear bags of suspected crack cocaine, according to police.
In total, police allege the officers found one bag of cocaine, 21 bags of crack cocaine, and four aluminum packages of PCP. Lopez was arrested and the car was towed.
The passenger, Crystal Rodriguez, 23, of Hoboken, was also arrested on a warrant for failure to appear, but was not arrested on any drug charges.
