WEEHAWKEN BRIEFS

Clarification:

In last week’s cover story, the owner of a Hoboken-based dog day care business complained that Mayor Richard Turner did not meet with him to discuss his concerns. Turner said that while he did not personally meet with him, the Weehawken town attorney, township manager, and chief construction official met with the business owner and his lawyer in advance of the public hearing to discuss their concerns.

Census shows Weehawken, UC populations drop, WNY’s rises

The 2010 Census results are out, and Hudson County has grown notably larger. However, some cities, like Weehawken and Union City, reflected a decline in population.
Weehawken and Union City were among the only three Hudson County municipalities to reflect a loss in population, with a 7 percent and 1 percent drop, respectively.
The Weehawken population dropped from 13,501 residents in 2000 to 12,554 in 2010, and the Union City population dropped from 67,088 to 66,455.
West New York was shown to have the second biggest increase, after Hoboken’s 30 percent jump, at 9 percent.
The number of residents increased from 45,768 residents in 2000 to 49,708 in 2010.
Overall, the county acquired 21,675 new residents since the 2000 Census. The county’s total population is now 634,266, making it the fourth largest county in the state.
