HOBOKEN — A large group of activists concerned with rent control who came out to the Hoboken City Council meeting on the evening of Jan. 19 will have to wait another day before proposed changes are addressed.
Interested parties in attendance, including Mile Square Taxpayers Association spokesperson Ron Simoncini and tenant advocate Cheryl Fallick, said they still have not seen the proposed changes to the rent control ordinance. The issue appeared on the agenda, but was pulled by Council President Beth Mason, who also heads a sub-committee to amend the rent control ordinance, because it was not ready to be addressed, according to the council.
A council sub-committee will meet on Monday, Jan. 24 at 6 p.m. in City Hall to discuss the issue again before it is introduced at a later council meeting.
Mason had said the changes would be available soon after the Jan. 5 meeting. The proposed changes to the 1973 law were still not public as of Wednesday evening. On Wednesday night, Mason told tenant advocate Dan Tumpson that the proposed changes will be available either before or at the Monday evening sub-committee meeting.
