The funeral liturgy was offered Jan. 13 at Evangelismos Greek Orthodox Church for Arthur Chokas, 87, a lifelong Jersey City resident. He passed away Jan. 9 at Cusack Care Center. He was a World War II veteran and a member of American Legion Post 52. Arthur was a letter carrier for the post office for 45 years, retiring in 1991. He was a lifelong parishioner of Evangelismos Greek Orthodox Church on Montgomery Street in Jersey City and received a plaque honoring his 50 years of service as a member of AHEPA. He also enjoyed taking bus trips with St. Aedan’s Golden Club. Arthur is survived by his wife of 60 years, Connie. He was the father of Georgia Mangan and husband Barry, Ernest, Michael, Andy and his wife Gabrielle, Steve and his wife Kim; is survived by seven grandchildren and one great-grandson; was the brother of Dr. William Chokas and wife Mary; and is also survived by nieces and nephews. Services arranged by the McLaughlin Funeral Home, Jersey City.
