HOBOKEN — Hoboken’s only hospital may be close to a sale, according to newspaper articles. Mayor Dawn Zimmer has said she wants to sell it to owners who will keep it as a hospital. The city, which backed a bond for the facility in 2008, hopes to fetch as much as $54 million for the facility.
According to NJ.com, the hospital board met on Wednesday night and “Hoboken Hospital Authority director Toni Tomarazzo announced that the board had not yet come to a final decision regarding the sale of the state’s oldest continuing hospital…The authority received eight responses to its call for proposals – eight more than the hospital received before it was taken over by the city in 2007 – and cannot say how many are still on the table, Tomarazzo said. Tensions rose amongst members of the registered nurses’ union JNESO who say they and the public have been denied due information regarding the identification of the bidders. All final proposals were submitted by a drop-dead deadline of Dec. 10. The authority convened for a special meeting on Dec. 13 to review them.”
