Stakeholders’ hospital input is appreciated

Dear Editor:
In October, Mayor Zimmer and the Hoboken Municipal Hospital Authority invited members of the community to participate in a series of stakeholder meetings to discuss the future of Hoboken University Medical Center. Over forty individuals participated and provided valuable input regarding the needs and desires of the citizens for the future of the community hospital.
The Authority issued a request for proposal in July seeking strategic opportunities for HUMC to ensure the long term viability of the community hospital. The RFP specifically calls for the continuation of HUMC as an acute care hospital while preserving the jobs of HUMC employees; continuing the valuable working relationship with the medical staff; and relieving the City of Hoboken of its financial obligations related to the guarantee of the hospital’s bonds.
On behalf of the Authority, I wish to thank the members of the stakeholders committee for the valuable input they provided. Their comments and ideas have been instrumental in guiding the Authority as we review the responses to the RFP. The Authority looks forward to completing the reviews and identifying the best plan for the future of the Hospital which will meet the objectives of the RFP, including ensuring the long term viability of a comprehensive community based hospital in Hoboken.
